Tryout registration, dates, and times are now posted (UPDATED 9/10/2025) - ADDITIONAL TIME ADDED PER SESSION!
As we head into the upcoming season, it’s important for athletes and families to approach try-outs with a clear understanding of the competitive landscape at VOLT Volleyball. In 2024, our program welcomed athletes from 42 different cities across the region, including powerhouse communities like West Fargo, Fargo, Jamestown, Grand Forks, Fergus Falls, etc. Many of these cities have multiple “A” teams, each with 10–12 high-performing athletes. That means there are easily over 150 “A” caliber players entering our gym.
With this level of talent, the math becomes clear: if we place 9-10 athletes on each 1s team, only 9 out of 150 will earn a spot on that top roster. But here’s the key message — making a 2s, 3s, or 4s team at VOLT is still a major accomplishment. These teams are filled with elite athletes and are designed to compete at a high level. Our Black, Pink, and White teams are trained with the same skill development, focus, and resources. This depth creates a high-performance training environment where:
At VOLT, our goal is to develop every athlete, not just those on a top team. We believe in equal investment across all travel teams, ensuring that every player has the opportunity to grow, compete, and succeed. So, as you prepare for try-outs, remember: the process is competitive because the talent is deep. Our goal is to provide a place where athletes are challenged, supported, and given the tools to thrive.
If you / your athlete wishes to tryout for a VOLT Volleyball 14s, 13s, or 12s team, and you / they are participating on a high school varsity, JV, or B Squad team this fall, please email us at voltvb@gmail.com. In your email, share the athlete's name, best phone number(s) to reach you, your current scholastic team, and your position(s). We will ask for a 2-minute video OR VOLT Director is willing to commit to watching two matches from the current season (live or recording).
VOLT Volleyball is focused on creating teams to complete at the top of their age division regionally and nationally. Because of this we encourage players to stay within their respective age divisions as we’re competing with top teams and clubs across the country. Generally, players who tryout in a higher age level must be “impact” players at that higher age level, or we will not select them.
We ask that players arrive 30-40 minutes prior to the tryout start time to get checked-in, registration confirmed and collect a uniform size, t-shirt size, and travel gear if applicable.
Players will need to present the NCR membership card or code at check-in
VOLT will have uniforms, practice shirts, warm-up shirts, and travel gear available for sizing at tryouts. We highly recommend trying on and recording your players sizing as you will be providing sizes in your players registration post-tryouts.
Tryouts are closed to the public and parents. Absolutely NO parents are allowed in the gym. DO NOT hang out around the track. The track is designated for public walking and running.
As soon as all tryouts are complete, VOLT will begin providing players with team assignments via email. A parent or guardian will have 90 minutes to complete their player registration and confirm their team placement.
Please know that we are working diligently to get all players team assignment sent out as soon as possible. Please give us time and know that we are working as swiftly as possible.
We need timely registration to ensure players are placed on the appropriate teams. The week following tryouts, we will be providing immediate information on uniform orders, hotel blocks, and fan apparel & gear.
Final rosters and coaches will be posted as soon as rosters are complete.
Why are tryouts held in October & November?
VOLT Volleyball has selected to hold tryouts on the first available date permitted by the Region and the NDHSAA.
Our first available tryout dates are set and given to the Region for publication in August. VOLT has no control over other clubs choosing to run their tryouts on the same day or time.
I am a 7th/8th grader who is currently playing high school volleyball during the tryout. How do I tryout?
VOLT Volleyball is focused on creating teams to complete at the top of their age division regionally and nationally. Because of this we encourage all players to stay in their respective age divisions.
Generally, players who tryout in a higher age level must be “impact” players at that higher age level, or we will not select them.
Players who tryout for a higher age level run the risk of not being selected for the higher age level, and then by that time the lower age level is already selected and full. (It is not possible for us to wait until a higher age level is completed before selecting a lower age level as this is unfair to the lower age players and we would be there all day & night.)

What is needed at the tryout?
"Welcome to volleyball, the game that teaches teamwork like no other. Communication, teamwork, and an ability to improve your situation no matter what; these are just some things you’ll learn from volleyball. It’s a lifelong game that can be played anywhere: on sand, on grass, hardcourt or even on snow."
