USA VOLLEYBALL JUNIOR PLAYER AGE DEFINITION For use during the 2023-2024 Season
Players will need to present the USAV membership card or QR code at check-in – please have your NCR/USAV membership in hand and ready prior to tryouts.
We ask that players arrive 20-30 minutes prior to the tryout start time as we will need time to get players checked in, registration confirmed, and collect uniform sizes
Tryouts are however closed which means absolutely no parents or public are allowed in the gym. DO NOT hang around the track as the track is designated for the public walking and running.
VOLT Volleyball has four outside evaluators assigned to managing player evaluations and the team selection process. VOLT Coaches will also be in the gym facilitating the tryout and drills.
Offers will be presented at tryouts. If you are offered placement on a VOLT Open or Regional team, you will need to either accept or decline your offer before leaving. This will automate and expedite the placement process. A letter of commitment will need to be signed by the athlete (and parent, if the athlete is under 18) before leaving the gym in order for you to secure your placement and be placed on the VOLT roster.
Why are tryouts held in October & November?
VOLT Volleyball has selected to hold tryouts on the first available date permitted by the Region and the NDHSAA. This year that date is October 30th for age groups 10’s-14’s and November 20th for age groups 15’s-18’s. Our tryout dates were set and given to the Region for publication in August. We have no control over other clubs choosing to run their tryouts on the same day or time.
I am a 7th/8th grader who is currently playing high school volleyball during the tryout. How do I tryout?
VOLT Volleyball is focused on creating teams to complete at the top of their age division regionally and nationally. Because of this we encourage all players to stay in their respective age divisions. Generally, players who tryout in a higher age level must be “impact” players at that higher age level, or we will not select them. Players who tryout for a higher age level run the risk of not being selected for the higher age level, and then by that time the lower age level is already selected and full. (It is not possible for us to wait until a higher age level is completed before selecting a lower age level as this is unfair to the lower age players and we would be there all day & night.)
If you / your athlete wishes to tryout for a VOLT Volleyball 14s, 13s, or 12s team, and you / they are participating on a high school varsity, JV, or B Squad team this fall, please email us at voltvb@gmail.com. In your email, share the athlete's name, best phone number(s) to reach you, your current scholastic team, and your position(s). We will ask for a 2-minute video OR VOLT Director is willing to commit to watching two matches from the current season (live or recording).
What is needed at the tryout?
We require online payment before the tryout, so it should be marked “PAID”. Wear appropriate volleyball gear and bring a water bottle for the tryout itself. Players will need to present the USAV membership card or QR code at check-in – please have your USAV membership in hand and ready prior to tryouts.
Be the positive for your players to do their best as you are the basis of their foundation. Assist your players with good sleeping, nutrition, hydration, and mental health habits to help them be at their best!
"Welcome to volleyball, the game that teaches teamwork like no other. Communication, teamwork, and an ability to improve your situation no matter what; these are just some things you’ll learn from volleyball. It’s a lifelong game that can be played anywhere: on sand, on grass, hardcourt or even on snow."
